Remote switches and remote dimmers are designed to provide cut-off or dimming functions on a receiver (usually a light) from several control points. Contactors (day-night contactors, for example) enable energy-hungry appliances to be switched on during advantageous periods such as off-peak hours. The other devices are essentially designed to energize (or de-energize) power lines directly from the electrical panel.
